The Public-Private Partnership for Handwashing (PPPHW) is a global initiative to promote handwashing with soap to reduce diarrheal infections, a major killer of children around the world today.
The PPPHW envisions putting the power to prevent diarrheal infections in everyone's hands by supporting the universal recognition, promotion, and practice of handwashing with soap at critical times in homes, schools, communities, and health centers.
Research has shown that washing hands with soap at critical moments - after contact with human excreta and before handling food – could reduce diarrhea incidence by 42-47 percent (Curtis & Cairncross, 2003).
The PPPHW brings together public and private sector partners, drawing on the best practice from both sectors to bring about large-scale change in handwashing behaviors and transform vision into reality.
