Sewage and water pipes run side-by-side through a marshy part of Mumbai city, just off the rail tracks. A common sight. The truth of the matter is that water is diverted to cities from water bodies in villages, leaving the villages themselves, dry. And, with cities bursting at the seams, water demands are going up and up, further depleting the water tables in hinterland villages. Is this justice? What kind of a skewed world are we living in?
Water containers shackled like so many prisoners, to avoid theft. Do water wars seem like such an unlikely scenario, then?
