This is how Nandasiri is a Changemaker:
During last 10 years I have been able to build an organization, Horizon Lanka www.horizonlanka.org , in a rural backward village in Sri Lanka to teach English and ICT to the children. Today those youth are proficient in English and are competent in computers. As a result, the youth after graduating from this community academy, now have a guaranteed ICT related job in the capital or within the village. I want to see how the same model can be replicated in the Asia-Pacific region by partnering with the young leaders and the other delegates of the Summit.

The place for which Nandasiri feels a fondness or connection:
I prefer to work in places like South America, Africa and the Pacific apart from my own country.

The change Nandasiri passionately wants to happen:
My vision is to make rural communities as technologically advanced as any metropolis whilst retaining their culture and sense of community.

Bio

In rural areas plagued by unemployment, isolation, and fractured schools, I, Nandasiri Wanninayaka make rural youth competitive in the global marketplace. I found a way to bring modern technology to isolated communities, link villagers to outside networks through Internet, and use alternative education (with an emphasis on the English language) to foster teamwork, creativity and self-esteem amongst students. I have been able to initiate Sri Lanka’s first village-level outsourcing venture. Establishing e-commerce so farmers can avoid middlemen and sell their products at market prices also is on the cards through the already installed mesh Internet community network in the village. My main interest is improving English and ICT education with the help of modern technology.
