THROUGH the youth-led Kabataang Gabay sa Postibong Pamumuhay where he serves as the President and Chief Executive Officer for 10 years now, he is advocating against worst forms of child labour – his passion which is inspired by his own childhood experience. Through his organization, he finds healing and healing of others.
HIS organization brings him and his members to many worst forms of child labour in southern Philippines particularly in the Visayas islands such as deep sea fishing in Northern Iloilo, sugarcane labour in his home province Negros and Passi City in Iloilo, production of pyrotechnics in Arevalo Iloilo City, domestic work in highly urbanized cities where children are trafficked from the countryside and the popular, most profitable and demeaning: children in the commercial sexual exploitation and drug trade.
AT PRESENT, he is directing 6 projects, (1) HIV prevention among most-at-risk children, youth and women, (2) Poverty Alleviation among Children in the Sugarcane Farms, (3) Treatment, Care and Support for PLHIV and there orphaned children, (4) HIV-Risks and Vulnerabilities of Street Children in 5 Highly Urbanized Cities in the Philippines: An Operations Research (5) Advocacy Programme for Children in the Illegal Drug Trade, (6) Prevention and Mitigation of Micro-level Sexual Trafficking of Children in Western Visayas.
HIS work with prostituted children is a risk-taking job, had rescued a number of girls from sexual trafficking and organized prostituted boys to control their agression as a result of their victimization and transform them into a pool of peer mentors together with girls to help children-victims of child prostitution and prevent others from being victimized. His organization has been receiving threats and other forms of harrassment but they count their blessings instead and continue their work with courage, passion and faith.
