About Cathrin Schauer

This is how Cathrin is a Changemaker:
Cathrin Schauer Grad. Nurse, Grad. Social-Pedagogue/Grad. The place for which Cathrin feels a fondness or connection:
Forced prostitution, women's and children's trafficking and their commercial, sexual exploitation in the Czech-German border regions shall be fought by building middle- and eastern-Europe networks as well as prevention- and awareness-methods. The public needs to be alerted. We contact the victims in street-work areas and brothels, and we seek the cooperation of own and foreign prosecution officials, NGOs and public organizations. This is specially meant to support the victim's trust, to improve their situation, and in order to develop new offers for help.

The change Cathrin passionately wants to happen:
Exemplary cross-border and interdisciplinary occupation to fight against forced prostitution, women's and children's trafficking, violence and sexual exploitation of children. - Transfer of the gained experiences to other regions in the EU, i.e. to the new member states, who have to deal with similar problems. - Exchange of experiences, research and best practice.

Bio

During the 14 years of our work we could help very many people. We like to mention the numbers of 2007: We had in the Czech Republic 372 and in Germany 86 counselling conversations with clients in different problems concerning physical and social violence, human trafficking, forced prostitution and sexual abuse. The results of these conversations were 102 cases of single help and 34 exits from prostitution. Furthermore in 2007, we had 866 prevention contacts with women in street prostitution, 68 prevention contacts with women in brothel-like institutions, 156 prevention contacts with children between 15 and 18 years old, and 59 prevention contracts with children less than 15 years in our work in the respective streets. In this frame we found different problem situations, and we helped to search for solutions as per the existing net-works. We plan to open a women’s and children’s protection-house, so that we can offer more persons concrete and more effective help, which is at present in our situation infeasible.
