Positioning in the Mosaic of solutions
What is your signature innovation, your new idea, in one sentence? - I am using the pod-cast as a unifying medium to raise awareness, create a unified area for discussion, and link people with active human rights groups in their local areas so they can think globally and act locally.
Describe your innovation. What makes your idea unique and different than others doing work in the field? - It uses new media in combination with my skills as a writer, actress, musician, and political essayist to create an entertaining and educational forum for audiences of all demographics to learn about this social evil and---most importantly, understand how they can get involved.
Delivery Model: How do you implement your innovation and apply it to the challenge/problem you are addressing? - I have my own pod-cast programme, and I have actively been working in human rights and the arts for the last four years. My art is based on the idea that tragedy can be presented in different mediums to offer inspiration and provide methods for the average individual 'to get involved,' and stand up and be counted.
How do you plan to grow your innovation? - My innovation is already in practice, and I will be further mobilising it through my Ph.d study in human rights and writing in which I will study the pod-cast and other internet resources as viable tools to educate, inspire, and produce my art.
Do you have any existing partnerships, and if so, how do you create them? - I work primarily alone, but I am partnered with Kurt Van Wilt, my father who is a human rights activist and my grandfather, Joseph Rael, a visionary and medicine man.
Provide one sentence describing your impact/intended impact. - To use the pod-cast to inform people of a silent social evil which is ever-present in this capitalist society, and offer and publicise ways in which people can get involved locally to fight against modern slavery.
How many people have you served or plan to serve? - I hope to serve thousands.
Please list any other measures of the impact of your innovation? - The opening of potential for all cultures to be linked artistically through the pod-cast---to share, preserve, and archive both thriving and nearly extinct cultures across the world.
Exactly who are the beneficiaries of your innovation? - Hopefully the benficiaries are those in need.
How is your initiative financed (or how do you expect your initiative will be financed)? - It is not a high-cost venture, but I am funding it out-of-pocket.
If known, provide information on your finances and organization - Annual budget;
Annual revenue generated; Number of staff: This field has not been completed. (166 words or less) What is the potential demand for your innovation? - I think the demand for this innovation is vast--it is efficient, inexpensive, widely reachable, and intensively capable of linking and modernising the way we look at social involvement.
What are the main barriers to financial sustainability? - I am a student and thus, I only have a certain amount of fluid cash for this project.
What is the origin of this innovation? Tell us your story. - I am a writer/actress/songwriter/singer, and I have always been active in human rights. I feel that there is a transcendent capabilty for the joy which generates from experiencing good theatre/music, etc has the transformative power to both heal and inform. I am also very interested in using the internet to disseminate my ideas and raise cultural awareness of human rights violations.
Please provide a personal bio. Note this may be used in Changemakers marketing material - I was reading books when everyone else was learning to write their name....I was very fortunate to grow up in a family that nurtured my nerdiness and gave me the opportunity to challenge myself when the education system couldn't. This enabled me to explore all of my interests and develop a way to use my talents as a singer-songwriter/playwrite/actress/human rights activist and to pursue and search for avenues for the performing arts to be used as tools for healing, education, and global partnership.

Hello Yasmine, Good ideas here. You mention that you are boycotting items from countries where you know the labor practices are unacceptable. I would love to know the countries on this list and I think it would be great to have it posted here as part of the discussion around this competition. Could you please reply and post the list of countries that have poor labor practices that you are currently boycotting? Maybe this will help influence some other people's purchasing practices. Thanks!
