Country: United States
Organization: Arthur R. Marshall Lox National Wildlife Refuge
Website: www.fws.gov/loxahatchee
Project Description:
The Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP) implementation is underway in South Florida, at an approximate cost of 20 million dollars. A geotourist destination is the Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge. This is the home of an implementation team, experiments in landscape ecology and the effects of flow, and a new visitor's center with state of the art interactive displays to provide the public an idea of what's going on to restore the ecosytem.
JAMinfo's Story:
The Refuge is named after the late Arthur R. Marshall, an ecologist that pushed for Everglades Restoration in the 1970's and '80's in cooperaton with the late Marjory Stoneman Douglas (Author: Everglades: River of Grass). Arthur R. Marshall is my Uncle. The Marshall family is inspired to support the Refuge and the legacy of Arthur R. Marshall.
