As a part of this team i am very much happy, because this idea is working infront of me.The main problem in this area is migration of people for bread and employment(Roji and Roti). This idea will give them a new type of sustainability. This will also give them chance to live with their lovings and land.
HELP THEM to appreciate this great IDEA.
With UMEED
"Community managed geotourism, for conservation of environment, and a cultural tourism experience for the tourists from around the world."
Great Idea!!!
Wishing all success to this venture

Greetings!
It was heartening to read about Umeed's initiative in the sustainable endogenous tourism domain. I understand UNDP's project has been studying this space intensely and I am sure your initiative will add value to these efforts.
I am positive your initiative will benefit both the community and local tourism stakeholders immensely.
A key driver in this context will be your leveraging ICT and retaining the Glocal (as against Global)
Best wishes to you and Umeed!

Dear Ummed Team,
It's really a great effort put up by your team in promoting the concept of community managed eco-tourism in such place like himalayasas, which see a lot of un-organised, un-managed, un-planned tourism activitiess.
Great work !!!

A great concept being carried out by dedicated people. A sure recipe for success!
Thought which had always been in my mind but you are the people who have guts and strong will to implement the community based tourism in Himalayas.
Your efforts will add gems in the crown (Himalayas) of our country.
Wish you all the best

The idea is certainly very innovative and should be a hit.
First time i see a project which keeps the community perspective in the focus, for a tourism activity. The tourism models promoted by Governments and investors are profit oriented, and keep the local community at a distance. This intervention is the right intervention, at the right time, and at the right forum.

Himalayan ecology is very fragile and needs great care and nurturing. We are treating it as if it can take all the abuse without getting damaged- which is grossly wrong. Scientists are now warning about the Gangotri glacier and i cannot imagine life without Mother Ganga. At the same time tourism is the mainstay of the newly born State of Uttarakhand as well as Himachal, Sikkim and our neighbour Nepal. A great concept has been generated by Umeed. This needs to be supported whole heartedly so that coming generations do not curse us for being irresponsible. Great job Umeed!!!
Geotourism , i guess is the improved version of what we used to call Ecotourism half a decade ago. Nature has always been a source of excitement and inticement, especially if you are a nomadic soul trapped in a resident body. The idea of integrating the tourism with community empowerment and development seems so stimulating ,I think its really gonna be what we call in our "lingo" a "cool and rocking" thing.
While my area of work has primarily been related to gender and reproductive health, I think community owned tourism in this region, is the only route to sustained development both for the community and the environment. This is an innovative concept which I know several of my family and friends -- development professionals, corporate employees, activists, musicians, film makers, writers, academics, will love. I am proud to be a part of the Umeed family!
