To add to what Dr. Win has said, in locations where arsenic is a problem, the treatment of surface water may be best. For example, in Bangladesh there was a shift to the use of tube wells, because of the diarheal illness that had been associated with the drinking of surface water.
There has been a big push to address the issue of arsenic in the water, with some success in the response. As an alternative in the arsenic areas it should be enirely possible to return to the use of surface water, together with the use of ceramic filters. Other alternatives for treating the surfce water would be: sodium hypochlorite, biosand, solardis and rainwater harvesting.
Let's keep the issues alive!

Many thanks for your support. In our country, we have good rains and poeple use to collect rain water in pots and ponds. They are exposure to open air and easy to get contermination with bacterias or others. The use of sodium hypochlorite, biosand and solaridis are not very popular to the local communities. However, they all accepted our ceramic water filters "Happy Family Water Filters" and UNICEF & many International NGOs are distributing to these communities. Thirst-Aid - Curt and & Cathy are developing community awareness program.
I am still interesting to have yours systems to integrate with ours. That would accomodate us to use in many more different areas and where they are needed. One main thing is we can affort the full costs of your mission.
Best wishes,

I wonder if your filters work with only certain types of water? Can you possibly provide information on the water parameters which can be treated with this filtration system? Do they work to remove arsenic?
Many thanks for your query. Our filters are focused mainly for Bacteria, Turbidity and Iron. We are studying on others usefulness. We have studied to remove arsenic. However, we are not encouraging anyone to use these filters for arsenic removal. This will be very dangerous. We have many areas found arsenic and all communities in arsenic areas are instructed to use alternate water sources, like surface water together with our ceramic water filters.
We have some difficulties in getting into internet. I do not have test results with me. I will send you later. If you have anything please also send email directly to me.
Many thanks.
Best wishes.

For my small part, many thanks for the good work you guys are doing with the globe filters. The situation with ceramic filter development is not unlike that of improved stoves (lorena stoves, etc.), started from back in the '70s. In many different locations there will be local adaptations to the ceramic filters. I believe that among those who are producing these there needs to be an association. Please, let's do discuss again.
