Eric’s endeavour is to arouse awareness and pride among young Mexican high school students and their teachers, both of their country’s rich heritage and of the multiple efforts currently being made in favor of ecology and the preservation of the environment, where students witness the natural habits and habitats of migrant species and the importance of maintaining their environment without destroying the resources so necessary for their continued well-being and production among a variety of other equally educational projects, building community through tourism.
I am a History professor and I'm convinced of the usefulness of providing students with experiences that provide knowledge beyond the classroom and of the importance of transporting people in time and space to imagine and understand different lifestyles and different cultures so as to understand the present we're living. Viajes Académicos has been instrumental not only for consolidating knowledge in my students but also it has been very helpful in motivating integration in my groups while creating in them the appetite to learn more about their past, their roots and their present and continue seeking this knowledge on their own in the future.
This is a fantastic idea. As an educator myself, I understand the importance of a hands-on learning experience. The opportunities that Viajes Academicos provides will indeed go a long way in creating proud, involved citizens out of the impressionable youth of Mexico and beyond. I have had personal experience with the services provided by Mr. Alvarez, and I guarantee he is effective in forming "knowledge and pride junkies"!! Best of luck to you!
What a great concept. Opening the minds of students who otherwise would just take a beach vacation. You are exposing them to a different yet richer experience that will lead to civic engagement and pride. I can see this concept exploding with today's youth the same way social networking has.
