Positioning in the Mosaic of solutions
What is your signature innovation, your new idea, in one sentence? - To put the spotlight on this issue the UN General Assembly declared the year 2008 the International Year of Sanitation. The goal is to raise awareness and to accelerate progress towards the Millennium Development Goal (MDG) target to reduce by half the proportion of people without access to basic sanitation by 2015.
Describe your innovation. What makes your idea unique and different than others doing work in the field? - Building an "Water and Sanitation House". It is different and unique because we have the necessary documents and the field area prepared - in the Galesti commune, Moldova.
Delivery Model: How do you implement your innovation and apply it to the challenge/problem you are addressing? - We prepare the necessary documentation.
How do you plan to expand your innovation? - But I would like to present you with an alternative view: improving sanitation represents one of our best options to really accelerate health, social and even economic development. Sanitation is not the topic of the Millennium Development Goals or of the International Year of Sanitation because it is a problem, but because it is a solution. Our work has shown that sanitation does improve health - simple achievable interventions reduce for example diarrhoeal disease by 391 million cases per year. Simple solutions exist that work in the poor urban and rural communities which are most affected. The economics add up: for every dollar, ruan or rupee invested, there are benefits that can, on average, be valued at nine times as much. Those benefits stack up to children, households and communities in the poor urban and rural communities that need them most.
Do you have any existing partnerships, and if so, how do you create them? - What type of partnerships to do need? Environmental Ministry, Science Academy, Centre Medical Prevention etc.
Provide one sentence describing your impact/intended impact. - Population's sanitation culture.
How many people have you served or plan to serve? - 50,000-60,000.
Please list any other measures of the impact of your innovation? - Permanently water quality control and the population informing.
Exactly who are the beneficiaries of your innovation? - All of the rural population.
How is your initiative financed (or how do you expect your initiative will be financed)? - It's not financed at present.
Provide information on your finances and organization: - Current Annual budget (2007 fiscal year)?
Annual budget for the past 1-2 years (2006 and 2005)? Annual revenue generated? What are your current sources and/or streams of revenue? Do you currently have sources of earned income (examples?); If not, why? a. $30,000 b. -$50,000 What is the potential demand for your innovation? - How do you estimate this demand?
Number of staff (full-time, part-time, volunteers): 2 full-time, 1,200 volunteers. What are the main barriers to financial sustainability? - The fact that Republic of Moldova is one of the most poor in Europe.
What is the origin of this innovation? Tell us your story. - The "House" is a compound part of the Local Action Environment Strategy.

Greetings from Nicaragua. I saw your letter on the changemakers competition page and wanted to contact you on a subject your organization may be interested in.
As our proposal on changemakers state we aim to help local organizations help their countries meet the UN DMG by locally producing and marketing a low cost proven ceramic water filter . To date we work with NGO’s and private enterprises in 19 countries to carry this out. We realize that the filter solution is not the long term solution that we all want for our countries but in the mean time the filter has proven itself capable of meeting the goals of removing micro-biological contaminants from polluted water.
About a year ago the US embassy in Moldova was interested in financing a filter project they sent me a brochure of a ceramic brick and pottery factory in your country that probably had the required machinery already installed to produce the filters but I think the Embassy lost interest and we did not hear from them again.
In any case if your organization is interested in partnering with a local established pottery producer in your country we would be happy to assist you in starting up a production by either in-house training or responding to technical questions over the internet.
If you are interested in this possibility , please check out our Weapons of Mass Bacterial Destruction proposal on the changemakers competition listing, take a look at the photos included, check out the FILTER PAGE on our Web site (below) and if still interested please write me.

For sure, the US Embassy in Moldova has lost it’s interest in implementing this project.
We are very interested in partnering with a local established pottery producer in Republic of Moldova. Good luck!

Dear Ron Rivera,
thanks for the messages. I'll respond more detailed later.
Dear Botnaru,
I agree completely with your assessment on the importance of sanitation and the need to provide education and support for its improvement.
I hope you take time to read through some of the other "competitors" as I see many whose ideas may be of interest to you...
All the best,
Brian
Hello,
what other "competitors" do you mean?
Good luck!
