What is your signature innovation, your new idea, in one sentence? With sports we are friends forever
Describe your innovation. What makes your idea unique and different than others doing work in the field? This is a unique inovation because it an initiative of children and it is for chidren. We shall only need adults in helping in the supervision of the project.
What are the existing barriers, the biggest problem, your innovation is hoping to address/change? Mistrust from the elders thinking that we children are not capable in managing our own afairs.
Delivery Model: How do you implement your innovation and apply it to the challenge/problem you are addressing? On top of sports, we shall also use other activities such as tree planting etc to spice-up our project.
How do you plan to grow your innovation? If we succeed, we hope to even influence the school curriculum in all elementary schools in the country.
Provide one sentence describing your impact/intended impact. Peace children should be able to take the peace torch to their hommes and spread the good news among many in This field has notthiscountry.
What impact has your innovation had to date/or what is your intended impact? Exactly who are the beneficiaries? Through this innovation, we hope the children shall be the first beneficies of this project.
Please list any other measures reflective of the impact of your innovation? We hope to see many schools joining this projrct.
What are the main barriers to creating or achieving your impact? Lack of funding and lack of publicity. We need to tell people about what we are doing and why we are doing it.
How is your initiative financed (or how do you expect your initiative will be financed)? I hope this initiative shall find its way among the top three and get some funding. apart from that we are also trying some donors for financial support.
If known, provide information on your finances and organization. I am not so kuch informed about the actual financial status of this school, but I have been reliably informed that its annual budget is about US$100,000.00. There is very little provision for funding sporting activities.
What is the potential demand for your innovation? There is great demand for sporting activities as a means of bringing unity, soildarity and peace in this country. We as children would like to do it ourselves, not to follow what adults are doing. Quite often times they do not understand us.
What are the main barriers to financial sustainability? Being a private school funds are not enough to support such programs such as this one. There are very many needs and funding sporting activities is not top on the list.
What is the origin of this innovation? Tell us your story. We the children at Victoria Montessori school would like to make our small, but meaningful cotribution by showing solidarity with the children of northen Uganda who have not known peace for over twenty years now due to war by the LRA rebels in the area.
Please provide a personal bio. Note this may be used in Changemakers marketing material. I was born in Northern Uganda, but grew up in the central region. I have a very strong emotional attachment with the children in northern Uganda. I want them to enjoy their youth like most of us are doing. We, as children have nothing to do with politics, but we can use sports to bring smiling faces and hope to our fellow children in that part of our country.
