It takes more than a good idea or even a good plan to achieve results. TeamPact has a grounded, reality-based, and proven formula to help young black and latino men to break the cycle of poverty and create the building blocks for the next generation. The (not so) secret ingredient in TeamPact's formula is Horace Allen's infectious leadership by example. He models commitment, hard work and accountabilty.
The example set by TeamPact is one of dire necessity in our black and Latino community. The emphasis placed on education is TeamPact’s greatest asset. I was part of TeamPact and Hobart College’s Men of color retreat to Minnesota. There a group of guys had the chance to see success on a large scale, seeing the payoff of a person’s life efforts in what they had achieved through their education. We met with CEO and directors of big companies such as Polaris and other industries. For a Dominican student from the Bronx to see the route taken to achieve such goals was a stepping stone in my life as it widen my possibilities. TeamPact has the possibility of being an eye opening experience for many black and Latino men just as it was an experience for me. Thank you TeamPact.

I am aware of the executive makeup of this organization. I know of their heartfelt committment to a life strategy for success for the Young Black and Latino men at risk.
I have witnessed their championing of disadvantaged youth in a previously managed technology oriented environment, that created young men that were equipped to compete in today's marketplace.
I know Horace Allen to be a innovator in the personal growth organizational model, and I applaud his roadmap of metrics and goals on the journey to personal realization and excellence.
I commend the thrust of TeamPact and feel they are worthy of your selection as a "Changemaker".
This organization is in the vanguard of education, personal responsibility and social mobility.
How rare it is to have a great idea actually become reality. I have know Horace Allen for over a decade and remember him as a student leader. He remembered the leg up that he had at his college and when he had the resources and the time put both to use. His creation of TeamPact and the work he has done with these fine young men has made a world of difference in transforming dreams into realities. The gift has been the challenge and demonstrated pathways to success -- there has been no free lunch. I commend Horace and his team for their achievements, and I am confident that TeamPact has created a model that can be implemented broadly and deeply that can transform our society.

Over the past eight years I have personally experience and witnessed Mr. Horace Allen’s commitment to the success of young minority males. Throughout high school and college Mr. Allen has been a great mentor to me. He has been a source of motivation, and has always pushed to strive for success in all aspects of live. Horace saw the potential in me that didn’t even know existed. When I needed help and guidance, especially during college, he was there to help in any way possible. Through TeamPact he has had the same positive effect in the lives of others. Without Horace I know the manner in which I set and achieve goals would not be the same.

Horace Allen is a leader amongst men and through his organization I can surely testify that he is making a leader out of me. Sometimes words simple can not capture the impact that his investment has made upon me and those that are in my position. It’s surely inspiring that he is willing to help me rise above of my current predicament and shows me the roads towards a successful future.
I am pure example of how TeamPact's road map for success works. During the fall semester of my sophomore year I was invited to Mr. Allen annual program ‘the Experience Ship,’ which was also led by other successful and well established alums. The details to this trip could be endless but it had one result; it showed me, as well as my peers, that we could aspire to do anything. Mr. Allen’s organization didn’t cease to exist with a visit to the graduate schools Emory University and the University of Central Florida. But it continues to be part of my life by structural my educational career and leading me towards a road which I believe would be a successful one.
TeamPact has offered young men of color an awesome and extraordinary opportunity. Horace Allen exemplies the true character of giving back and not forgetting the struggles that young men of color encounter as they grow. TeamPact clearly is a class organizatio.
Based on my many years of personal and professional association with Horace Allen, I highly recommend his fine organization as a means to helping minority students achieve their true potential. The TeamPact program has dedicated itself to helping young people of all backgrounds become self -fulfilled individuals and contributing citizens. And it is succeeding by all measures. Such work must be commended and rewarded so that TeamPact can thrive and it can serve as a daring example for other organizations to follow it its path.
As a parent first and a teacher in the Geneva City School District, Team Pact is an organization that is long overdue in our community. I have seen the enthusiasm and thirst for growth in my son as he has begun his journey with the Team Pact Road Map to Success his senior year. When he heard Horace Allen speak last year at Hobart and William Smith College his eyes lit up as he described the possibilities that lie ahead for him. Horace keeps it real. Horace Allen is a light at the end of the tunnel for the young men and woman of Geneva. He is committed to the students and they trust him. When I discuss Team Pact with others in the community and outside of Geneva they find it hard to believe, but when I direct them to the web site or encourage them to have a conversation with my son about his experience with Horace and Team Pact, they walk away with "Where has this guy been?" Horace Allen and Team Pact have given my son the confidence and necessary tools to be a successful Man of Color in the United States of America. My son knows that they will not do the work for him and that he has an incredible opportunity to be coached by this honorable man. Horace communicates weekly with my son through email and phone and meets face to face once a month. Team Pact leaves no stone unturned, has an exemplary curriculum, holds our kids accountable and should be in every community!!
My appreciation for TeamPact:
Being successful is very important to me as a young man of color and I always knew that I had the ability to do so but I never had the right guidance. TeamPact has come into my life and showed me how to connect the WHY and most importantly the HOW as to what it takes to become a successful Black Man in America.
TeamPact has saved me from a life of mediocrity and showed that I can graduate from a great school (Hobart College) with good grades (3.0) and work for a reputable company (Yellow Book USA). Not to mention I also learned that there were more ways to climb the success ladder other than hanging on to a short lived NFL career with the New York Giants or playing Arena Football for the Grand Rapids Rampage. You don’t just have to run fast and jump high to be somebody of importance and add value to the American economy.
There are an enormous number of men of color out there that can benefit from TeamPact Road Map to Success for Young Black and Latino Men. All we need to do is spread the word and TeamPact is going to take the world by storm. I know there are other organizations vying to win this award, but I’m not sure if any of those other organizations have done what TeamPact has done over a longer period with the greatest amount of outcomes.
TEAMPACT SHOULD BE THE CHANGEMAKER OF THE YEAR!
The rhetoric of the young men of color I know tends to be that of dreams of stardom, celebrity, or hustling. Now if that is not a set up for disaster, then I do not know what is. What Horace Allen has done with TeamPact is to not shatter the dreams of these young men; but to find ways they can channel their passion, strength and expertise into something more contrutive and rewarding. Thus, instead of a young black man trying to become an NBA star, TeamPact provides the opportunity for the young man to aspire to becoming maybe a sports agent. This way, he is not giving up his passion, but he is making sensible choices with it. TeamPact's success goes far beyond any program that I have seen. Residing here at William Smith College, I see first hand how TeamPact is not one of those "fix-em-up" programs that sticks a band-aid on the problem. TeamPact gets to the heart of the matter and reworks the wiring to success.
The more I hear about the Teampact program the more convinced I am we need it in our community. We are in the process of developing a mentoring program and Horace Allen and and his organization has developed a program which has proven effective in helping "at risk" youth succeed. I know our mentoring program will also be a success if we add some of the components of the Teampact Roadmap which we hadn't considered. Thank you Horace Allen and I wish you and your organozation continued success.
Congratulations to TeamPact and to Horace Allen for one of the most innovative and effective programs for men of color that I have seen. Having known Mr. Allen for some time, I am aware that this has long been a vision of his and it is gratifying to see it become a reality. The sucess of the program is evident from the statistics on its graduation and empolyment rates. This program should serve as a model for how to effect real change in the lives of men of color. Continued success in the future.
I am so honored to be included in this challenge. Yes I too have known Horace Allen for many years, but what he and TeamPact are trying to do is simply remarkable. This program is doing what many companies and institutions say they should be doing. The facts and statistics speak for themselves.
Horace has assembled a remarkable team to help with this most important endeavor. I know it will be a success. Its success has been and will continue to be measured by the positive impact it has on the individual lives of many and the society as a whole.
TeamPact is without a doubt one of the most successful at Risk Programs for Youth's today. The leadership demonstrated by the founder Horace Allen is more than enough to influence young men of color to become what they have always dreamed. Throughout my life I have always dreamed of being wealthy and successful but I never had the right guidence, but after meeting Horace Allen I have realized that I can accomplish my goals.
I have known Horace Allen for several years. He is an excellent leader and a person with a big heart. The strength and success of TeamPact has had a tremendous impact on our men of color. The mentoring provides a path to greatness and a vision for tomorrow. The program provides the tools and skills that are necessary for the students to compete and succeed on a academic and professional level. The personal development is a crucial element of the program. They leave knowing that they are leaders…challenged to become great thinkers and problem solvers. The foundation of TeamPact teaches the students to become focused, discipline and hold themselves to high expectations and standards. Lastly, upon leaving they know it is critical to give back. Why… because they have been taught and empowered by one of the best. I know because my son is a product of TeamPact….he will be attending law school in the fall. Much success to TeamPact and Horace Allen!
I wish Horace and Team Pact much success in the future. This is an excellent program. I am from Detroit, MI and wish that there was something similar to this in my community. In this day and age, I think all young men of color could seriously benefit from a program like this.

I've known Horce Allen for over twenty years and the various community programs he has impacted. Horce Allen has always been committed to the self development of young African American Men. TeamPact is an example of a program that goes beyond traditional mentoring. Positive male influences do make a difference in a person's life, especially young people.
Horace Allen is committed to TeamPact Roadmap and he has a passion to see the young black and latino men succeed in life. I am an alumna of Millennium Technical Institute, a cutting edge technology program that Horace Allen was a founder off in Minneapolis, MN. Effective education and training programs remain our best hope for the young black and latino men. TeamPact Roadmap to Success for Young Black and Latino Men is one of those programs.
TeamPact mentors young black and latino men to become better men. They accomplish this by exposing theses young black men to different opportunities. They help them with both personal and most importantly academic issues. They map out goals that each young men are expected to accomplish. TeamPact's committment and passion is what gives them such remarkable results. I think such commitment and passion is needed in our community to help young black and latino men succeed.
As an elected official in a city with a significant African American and Hispanic population, I have searched far and wide for a successful model of empowerment for our city's at-risk youth. My search is over...Teampact has crafted such a model.
To be clear, I have been to far too many funerals, consolded far too many grieving and aggrieved parents, known far too many youth of color whose lives were ruined or lost by poor decision making and poorer life choices. Teampact offers an incredibly successful alternative to this tragic staus quo. For this I am not only grateful, but indebted.
I have known Horace Allen since the early 1980s, and he has never failed to impress. Horace has evolved from college student leader, to entrepreneur, to successful bussinessman, to a real difference maker in the community, especially in the lives of our youth. His evolution is inspiring.
Through Teampact he has forged for our youth a viable alternative to the prevailing tragic status quo prevelant in far too many of our communities - undereducation, unemployment, participation in illegal activities, low self-esteem, imprisonment, and, tragically for some, death at a far too early age.
I salute Mr. Allen and Teampact! They've found a youth intevention and empowerment initiative that really works...a model that saves and changes lives...a model that educates and empowers, a model not just worth celebrating, but emulating.

Teampact's leaders have demonstrated their ability to produce sustainable change in the lives of young men, their families and their communities. TeamPact provides a solid foundation for young men to build the social capital skills necessary to become the optimistic, compassionate and self-determining individuals they were born to be.

I have had the opportunity to work with Horace Allen since before the inception of TeamPact, and recognized then his committment to America's Black and Latino youths. His every interaction with the students at Hobart and William Smith Colleges was one in which he asked them to think about their future and what they wanted to accomplish in life. I have seen first hand the impact his interaction has had on these students, especially when they realize that college is not the end of the road and that they must work hard in all things to achieve success. His coaching style, and those of the other coaches at TeamPact, is real and tangible as they all believe in the product and the men with whom they come in contact. I believe that TeamPact has performed miracles for many of the young men who have committed themselves to the program, and that they in turn have been able to realize their full potential as members of this society. I can't speak for the other programs in this contest, but I can speak for TeamPact and they are doing a fantastic job in helping our young men of color realize the American Dream.

The leadership of Horace Allen has made this program a huge success. Affords opportunities to young black and Latino men who otherwise would not be considered. The 100% High School Graduation Rate is highly impressive. Horace pours his heart and soul into this program -- it is his passion as he desires that men of color be challenged and given the right to succeed.
TeamPact is instrumental in the betterment of the lives of men of color. I have witnessed this event at the institution I currently attend, Hobart and William Smith Colleges. Mr. Allen is an outstanding role model to all. Above all he gives his time and works endlessly for the success and advancement of men of color in higher education.
TeamPact's road map for success works. And it works admirably well. It is a practical approach to improving the lives of young black and Latino men. In the few years I have been acquainted with Mr. Allen and his program, I have learned the effectiveness of an approach that understands where many of our young black and Latino men come from and one that guides them unto a path that changes their lives and, consequently, reshapes their future. Oh if we could only have a universe of Teampact road maps so that success would become part of the lives of all young men of color!

Over the past twenty five years I have witnessed Mr. Horace Allen's commitment to helping young men from all walks of life achieve success. The truth be told, I along with tens of other successful blackmen have been infuenced and mentored by Horace Allen long before he developed the TeamPact model. In hind sight you might say that the TeamPact model was twenty plus years in the making before being launched in January of 2003.
Allen, through the TeamPact model provides sound evidence base on hard facts and statistics of proven and impressive results. In my opinion as a criminal defense attorney and a trained mediator who has participated in community conflict resolution for Howard County, Maryland; I believe TeamPact is a socio-economic blue print for "Young Men at Risk" to achieve not only academic success but also, lasting and sustaining life skills which have a positive economic impact on their communities, counties and states. What I find most compelling is that the TeamPact model nurtures, molds and shapes the individuals with incentivized experiences that develope self confidence and most of all self accountability. By using this incintivized method these young men strive for success and achieve it rather than looking for excuses or reasons why they cannot achieve success. TeamPact is doing great things one person at a time.

Teampact has shown a realistic appraisal of the primary issues standing between young men of color and the successful impact they can have on our society.
Horace recognizes that without financial backing and a commitment to long term support it would be highly improbable to refocus the energies and skills of these young men in a positive and productive direction.
Having been a part of The Edison Project, and seen many of the experimental approaches being developed to impact youth's at risk, Teampact's approach has all of the components necessary for successful outcomes.
My husband and I met Horace Allen after our son met him through a summer program for a group of selected minorities at Hobart and Willliam Smith College. Our son was inspired by Horace Allen. He continues to motivate our son by keeping in touch via phone or email. Horace is a great motivator and mentor. Thank you Horace!
Horace Allen has taken a stand in saying that society is "AT RISK". Mr. Allen is demonstrating his commitment to help mitigate that risk. He understands what it will cost us (society) if we do not act. From quitting school, gang participation, to incarceration, our young men of color are in jeopardy of becoming just another statistic. Through the creation of TeamPact, 41 young men have refused to become "just another statistic". They have been given encouragement, guidance, and are now equipped with the tools necessary to succeed ---not just in their careers but in life as well.
Without TeamPact, our society may not have realized the full potential and limitless contributions that these young men are capabable of.
I have known Horace Allen for over 20 years. From the first time I met him he always knew he would be a successful entreprenuer and would always give back through his knowledge and expertise. This is what he is doing through TeamPact. I am not surprised by the organization's success rate of 100% high school graduation rate or the 89% college retention, graduation and emplpoyment rate. I know Horace stresses the importance of education and responsibilty to every participant in the program. He is great role model and mentor.
Horace Allen's, TeamPact program is an excellent one, providing men of color with opportunities and a sense of growth. As a participant of the program, I can speak from first hand experience on how much the program has fostered a strong sense of growth, self and entitlement within me. Both Horace and Roxanne (founders) are positively instrumental in the lives they come in contact with and inspire success. The program was extremely important then, is important now and the same will apply to the future. Nothing can replace the focus that I have gained.
As an alumnus of Hobart & William Smith Colleges, I witnessed first-hand the negative implications lack of leadership and mentorship had on my male peers. Graduation was to be a joyful day yet part of me was distraught over the fact that the majority of the “men of color” from my class year were not walking across the quad with me. Horace Allen’s program, TeamPact, has worked wonders and the results are evident. TeamPact is an experience that is necessary for all young “men of color.” Horace Allen has not simply resorted to helping the students perform well and graduate. I now see “men of color” who are garbed in confidence, intellectuality, tenacity and pride who are ready to take their place as leaders of the twenty-first century. Now that’s an accomplishment!
TeamPact's road map to success is a great model of what is greatly needed for our youth. There are so many programs out there that temporarily impact a youths life in some way. What makes this approach different is the LONG TERM commitment to success is provides. It not only helps motivate and focus students initially, but has monthly follow-up with each and every student involved to monitor their progress and modify as needed. I am very impressed with the structure, commitment, and overall success of this program.

After reading many of these statistics it is obvious that a program such as Teampact is very crucial to the future success of many students of color.

Horace Allen and Teampact has worked directly with two young men in my school this year. As a principal, I often hear about mentoring programs and honestly question the committment and long range impact of this type of relationship. After a few hours of meeting with Mr. Allen I was convinced that the Teampact program offered much more than traditional "mentoring". Mr. Allen is careful not to call himself a mentor but refers to himself as a coach and as a coach he often tells these young men things that they may not want to hear. What they do hear, is a specific roadmap for success and concrete strategies to help improve themselves and set attainable goals that can be achieved through hard work, dedication, and focus. As an educator (High School Principal), I am impressed with the Teampact Program and hope to be able to engage more of my young men and women of color with Teampact in the future.
I live in Geneva, NY where the majority of successful people are white, however, there are many minorities that need an example set for themselves. Horace Allen is an excellent example to me and also to other black and latino men around the country. He enhanced my idea of education and helped me to set goals for myself in order to become successful, and to be one the 10 % of people in Geneva to get a PHD. He's not one of those "here today, gone tomarrow" motivational speakers. He really gets involved with students life through phone, email, and even in person. He treats us as if we were his own family by helping us in whatever way he can. He also uses money right out of his own pocket for the program and never even complains to us about it. He doesn't even ask anything in return but to do well in school, stay focused and become successful. I am honored to have Horace Allen as my coach.
TeamPact is a company designed to create leaders. The TeamPact Road Map To Success program is doing more for men of color than the traditional "handout channels". When we look at the success of any program, we must use results as the biggest criteria for return on investment. Here are some of the results:
Successful Outcomes - January 2003 to Present:
- Successful Proof of Concept at the Hobart College Men of Color Pilot Project
- 89% - College Retention, Graduation and Employment Rate

October,2007 I was able to witness TeamPact Roadmap to Success for Young Black and Latino Men when I assisted Horace Allen with a group of young men (and women) in Orlando, Florida. The students visited two colleges in the Orlando area to obtain information on graduate programs. The students received a wealth of information and they were grateful for all the time and effort that Horace put into their continuing education.
Horace Allen has made an impact on a lot of Black and Latino students and has redifined mentoring...
Congratulations!!!
Unlike most organizations focused on Young Men of Color, TeamPact has produced proven results over a five year period resulting in over $4 Million in economic impact and an 89% retention, graduation and employment rate.
Horace Allen has been volunteering for the last ten years to speak to my Accounting, etc., (secondary education) classes at the Hennepin County Home School for adjudicated male juveniles in Minneapolis, MN, where I have been teaching for the past 19 years. I first saw his picture and an article in the StarTribune, called him, and he has been working with my students here since then. He has great affection, rapport, and influence with our residents and encourages them to look objectively at themselves, institutions, education, and their futures with new intellectual insight.
When I first found out Mr. Allen was going to create the organization, I was thrilled. For a number of years Mr. Allen has provided his wisdom to the youth, specifically young men of color. Teaching them there is more to life than what they've been exposed to in their neighborhoods.
Now he's able to affect the lives of numerous youth because he's developed a "roadmap to success"-- it's his way of duplicating himself.
I find that having a straight mentor program is no longer the solution, the young men need a map to carry them forward after high school, college into grad school. Since it's inception, the boys that have entered the program have a better focus as to which direction they want to travel for success.

TeamPact's road map for success is exemplary of how the power of commitment can produce such fantastic and inspirational results. I was very impressed to see how commitment from the creator of the initiative blossomed into a strategic and cross-cutting approach to tackling challenges faced by young black & Latino men. TeamPact's approach focuses on both personal and professional aspects which are crucial and seem to really bolster the success rate...and, as I would imagine, this combination must make the experience that much more rewarding and fruitful for the participants and coaches.

Geneva High School
Keep up the good work and thank you!

Well done Tempact.
