Thank you for participating in this collaborative competition. We value the time and effort you’ve put forth and we would like to offer you feedback and some thought provoking questions from our Evaluation Team.
The way the project addresses key Millenium Development Goals and its link to local communities and youth participation aspect is promising, as is the project’s significant impact in just one year. Hovever, the exact role of adults and programming structure of the organization is unclear. Financial sustainability is also uncertain since the current business model is the same one anticipated for the future.
Please use this input as both potential insights into your innovations, as well as constructive ideas for how to improve or grow your organization.
Hello Caleb,
It sounds like you are really doing some great work and the way in which you have engaged members of the community to support the program is impressive. Is there anyone else doing similar work in Uganda or is this totally a new approach? Could you explain a bit more about what a membership looks like? Who are your members? How do you reach out to them? What are they charged and what is it that they are paying for? Also, it sounds like the sports program is part of larger project that you run. Of the 20,000 young people that you have impacted directly, how many of those are in the sports program? Thank you for your responses!

I think your project sounds very interesting. Your focus on including people and connecting them to each other is extremely important. I have noticed that stereotyping and judging others is also a big problem here in Germany. Especially young people tend to identify with certain groups and exclude others at the same time. Supporting a conscience where respect, responsibility and understanding for each other play a vital role constitutes the basis for peace. I think that we actually have to support this conscience, work against the stereotypes that you have mentioned and try to connect people to each other everywhere in the world. Sport is one good means to actually achieve this goal.
I would like to know more about Mt. Elgon Self-Help Community Project and its structure. How did your initiative begin and who was the initiator? I also would like to know how many people are working with Mt. Elgon Self-Help Community Project and how you realise the contact and communication with the local groups in 102 villages. The young people organise their groups themselves, right?
Sincerely yours,
